If anyone out there is looking for a running/workout playlist, I offer this tried-and-true mix:

1. Augustus Gloop – Danny Elfman (from the Charlie and the Chocolate Factory soundtrack)

This is a good warmup song because a) it reminds you that you don’t want to be like Augustus Gloop; b) it's a good song; and c) it makes you mad that people thought they needed to remake Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, and it’s helpful to have a little anger as you begin your run.

2. She Spider - Mew

Mew Mew Mew. Cute Danes. This song helps you understand you're about to work out. (Don't let go of your initial anger. You’re about to need it. Think of how much you loved Gene Wilder.)

3. Handshakes – Metric

Now you transition into Lara Croft-like running-like movements. This song helps.

4. Hunting for Witches – Bloc Party

Who needs to be in good shape? Witch hunters. Imagine a montage where you are Neo (of The Matrix) in a catching-witches way.

5. Black Steel – Tricky

You know the Public Enemy song? This is a cover, and it's an excellent tempo for running.

6. Working Overtime – New Order

If you typically bring a tambourine with you to the gym, this song provides a perfect opportunity to use it.

7. Mass Romantic – The New Pornographers

This is seriously the best running song ever.

8. Spread Your Love – Black Rebel Motorcycle Club

Feel free to not run to this song. Sometimes it works, sometimes no. It's on notice.

9. 99 Problems – Jay-Z

If you have any bitch problems in your life (hopefully no), this is where you run angry at the bitches.

10. Monkey Bars – Jurassic 5

You can sub in whatever Jurassic 5 song you prefer here. This one is offered because it's a decent tempo.

11. Ch-Check It Out – Beastie Boys

Picture yourself emerging all svelte from a limo in a cocktail dress with Sandy Cohen in Vegas, eyebrows a-glow.

12. Know Your Chicken – Cibo Mato

If you didn't wear this song out in the late 90s, by all means, add it to your running mix.

13. Big Casino – Jimmy Eat World

I'M THE ONE WHO GETS AWAY! I'M A NEW JERSEY SUCCESS STORY!
