I'm very late to the party in pilfering this survey.

1. What did you do in 2007 that you’d never done before?
Got high in Amsterdam (I know, late to the party). Went to Jumbo’s Clown Room. Hiked Half Dome. Went to Disney World. Actually, that was my first-ever trip to Florida. It was pretty much what I expected.

2. Did you keep your new years’ resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
I don’t remember last year’s, but this year is pretty boring: do yoga all the time. And also: do nice things to make the people I love know how much I love them. Also: don’t forget anyone’s birthday.

3. Did anyone close to you give birth?
Everyone I know gave birth.

4. Did anyone close to you die?
No, but this really made me have to stop and think, which is weird because I should know the answer right off the top of my head, right?

5. What countries did you visit?
Holland, France, Belgium. I think I’m cheating by saying Belgium. We just went through it on the train.

6. What would you like to have in 2008 that you lacked in 2007?
Courage.

7. What dates from 2007 will remain etched upon your memory?
Hmm, I’m bad about dates. As far as memorable events, there was all the birthing. And I was pretty excited when I was a giant moot court finalist/runner-up nerd.

8. What was your biggest achievement of the year?
I have to say getting a job offer from a fancy law firm.

9. What was your biggest failure?
I was only the runner-up in moot court nerdhood. Also, an IP professor asked me to TA for him and I was pretty flattered. The job just involved grading a bunch of student papers. When I picked up the first batch of papers, I promptly lost them. That was a spectacular blunder at the time, but now I’m drinking wine and snickering about it.

10. Did you suffer illness or injury?
In August, a bookend fell on my toe and caused an unsightly welt. My toenail is still blue. But at least it didn’t fall off. A Chicken Little-ish classmate told me it was going to fall off.

11. What was the best thing you bought?
A new couch. With a hide-a-bed!

12. Whose behavior merited celebration?
Erik (he bought me an amazing Fender Rhodes keyboard from a guy in Green Day even though he knew I would stop seeing it and forget to play it). My brother (he is a really cute, affectionate dad).

13. Whose behavior made you appalled and depressed?
Britney Spears. Justice Anthony Kennedy. My own, at times.

14. Where did most of your money go?
Student loans.

15. What did you get really, really, really excited about?
Nephew!

16. What song will always remind you of 2007?
Either Way by Wilco. Impossible Germany by Wilco. Past and Present by Feist. Fake Empire by The National. Challengers by The New Pornographers. Islands on the Coast by Band of Horses.

17. Compared to this time last year, are you:
a) happier or sadder?
I think the same. Yes, I’m going with same.
b) thinner or fatter?
Probably the same, although I think I have better core strength now.
c) richer or poorer?
I guess poorer considering I took out another loan for my last year of law school. No, definitely poorer.

18. What do you wish you'd done more of?
Running. I especially wish this now that the half marathon is two weeks away.

19. What do you wish you'd done less of?
Festering.

20. How will you be spending Christmas?
Christmas was all nephew, all the time. The nephew did his morning shift at my mom’s in the O.C. and the evening shift at my dad’s in San Diego. We just followed him around and watched him receive presents. He’s only five months old so he didn’t really understand that he was receiving presents, but he seemed to enjoy eating wrapping paper.

22. Did you fall in love in 2007?
Yes.

23. How many one-night stands?
Hundreds.

24. What was your favorite TV program?
The Office. I finally caved and watched the American version, and it got funny after the un-funny first season. I swear! And Project Runway (even though this season’s contestants all seem like they’re on quaaludes or something, except Christian).

25. Do you hate anyone now that you didn't hate this time last year?
I wouldn’t say hate, but this one girl really pissed me off and now when I hear her name I feel like I just smelled extremely sour milk. You would probably understand if you met her.

26. What was the best book you read?
The Razor’s Edge by Somerset Maugham.

27. What was your greatest musical discovery?
I don’t know if it qualifies as a “discovery,” but I’m really loving The National. And in early 2007 I think I listened to Midlake “The Trials of Van Occupanther” about 7000 times. And I really love that Wilco record. Also, the Stars of the Lid record (And Their Refinement of the Decline). For lying on the floor with music surrounding you.

28. What did you want and get?
That keyboard I forget to play.

29. What did you want and not get?
I don’t really know. I mean, it would be nice to own a home, but I’m sure that will happen someday.

30. What was your favorite film of this year?
Two Days in Paris. Paris Je T’aime. The King of Kong. Once.

31. What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?
Went to Cliff’s Edge with Erik. I turned an ancient unmentionable age. We had a party the weekend after.

32.What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?
Like RDG, I have to say a dishwasher. But there’s no dishwasher in my near future, to be sure. And I’m still so pleased to have a washer/dryer right here in our apartment, I can’t really complain. But I can. When I visit homes of friends who have dishwashers, I'm amazed at how much time they have!

33. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2007?
Same jeans every day paired with various tops. Also, there was a skirt from Anthropologie I wore almost every day this summer.

34. What kept you sane?
The husband. My friend Kristine.

35. Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?
I’ll admit I fancy that Emile Hirsch, but Into the Wild made me mad.

36. What political issue stirred you the most?
Probably abortion. The supreme court is fucked up now and it’s probably going to be fucked for a long time. Ginsburg and Stevens just need to hang in there until 2009! If Bush gets another go, we’re in trouble.

37. Who did you miss?
Brandis. Prather. The Neals.

38. Who was the best new person you met?
Probably Emmeline. Very new friend. We just did a walking art deco tour of LA today. Or maybe new law school friend (the one I went on a blind date with). Not only is she trying to talk me into getting pregnant immediately, but she’s also evangelically keen on this natural birthing process called “hypnobirthing” where you envision the baby emerging from an opening flower and somehow this makes drug-free childbirth not hurt. I would give the best new person award to our friend Joe, but I met him in late 2006, so he's disqualified. Joe’s the best.

39. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2007:
Trust your gut.

40. Quote a song lyric that sums up your year:
Maybe the sun will shine today
The clouds will roll away
Maybe I won’t be so afraid
I will understand
Everything has its plan
Either way
